Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Well this was a relitivly short and easy chapter to read. I don't really have any questions...
Wait one, where you able to picture that cute little dog pouncing on that tiny beetle? I thought that Mark Twain was able to paint a vivid picture of that scene.
Well that's the one and only additional question, so here are the normal ones,
What were you expecting to happen in this chapter?
What do you think will happen next?
What character do you like best? Why?
What character can you relate to?
In general what do you think this author is trying to tell us?
What do you think of each relationship?
Who is your least favorite character? Why?
What do you think of the setting and time period?
If it was in present day what do you think would change?
Do you like the writer's style?

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

So questions… Can you relate to any of the experiences that Tom has had so far in this book? What do you think of the Sunday school situation? What did you think when Tom bribed for the bible? What do you think of Tom’s opinion of grown-ups showing off? Do you think that he’ll be able to win Amy’s heart? Do you think that he’ll be able to get out of the grave he dug himself?

And now the normal questions:

What were you expecting to happen in this chapter?
What do you think will happen next?
What character do you like best? Why?
What character can you relate to?
In general what do you think this author is trying to tell us?
What do you think of each relationship?
Who is your least favorite character? Why?
What do you think of the setting and time period?
If it was in present day what do you think would change?

Chapter 3

Chapter 3,

So we know that Tom is indeed old enough to notice girls, especially this new girl in town. What do you think about this development? If you were Auntie Polly would you give Tom a licking or not?

Well there aren't any extra questions so answer the old ones,
What were you expecting to happen in this chapter?
What do you think will happen next?
What character do you like best? Why?
What character can you relate to?
In general what do you think this author is trying to tell us?
What do you think of each relationship?

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Sorry I’ve been ignoring my responsibility of posting. Whenever you think it’s time for another post and I haven’t posted, please come and bug me about it.

So you’ve all read chapter 2… What did you think about the language? Find it hard to follow? What do you think was the weirdest thing said in this section? What do you think of Tom being able to trick everyone into painting the fence for him? What would happen now a-day if someone tried to trick you like that? What does that tell you about him?

What were you expecting to happen in this chapter?
What do you think will happen next?
What character do you like best? Why?
What character can you relate to?
In general what do you think this author is trying to tell us?
What do you think of each relationship?
Who is your least favorite character? Why?
What do you think of the setting and time period?
If it was in present day what do you think would change?
Do you like the writer's style?

Coming up next, chapter 3.

Preface and Chapter 1

Preface and Chapter 1

Well, that was an interesting introduction to Tom and his life. What you need to do now since you’ve read the first chapter is leave a comment about what you thought about it, and answering most of the guiding questions and whatever else you want to add.

In general what do you think this author is trying to tell us?
What do you think of each relationship?
Who is your least favorite character? Why?
What do you think of the setting and time period?
If it was in present day what do you think would change?
Do you like the writer's style?

These are the normal guiding questions. I’ll post a few questions that (I can’t remember the word I need) this chapter.

1- Do you think the stranger will be a big part in this story?
2- Do you think they will be close friends?

So leave a comment and enjoy the rest of the book.

FYI: By the Way

By the way we are starting this week, I hope everyone got the email. If you know of someone who hasn't, please let me know. So feel free to start reading anytime.

First Read

The first book we are reading in this years Great Book is Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. This will be an online discussion. We will be posting guiding questions for your comments. You can find the book at http://www.pagebypagebooks.com/Mark_Twain/Tom_Sawyer/. We will be working towards 3 chapters a week. It doesn't matter when but you should have a comment up for each chapter and for every post we put up by Friday. Make sure your comments contain more than one sentence, answering most of the guideing questions.
Thanks,
Chloe, Becca, and Ali
