Preface and Chapter 1
Well, that was an interesting introduction to Tom and his life. What you need to do now since you’ve read the first chapter is leave a comment about what you thought about it, and answering most of the guiding questions and whatever else you want to add.
What were you expecting to happen in this chapter?
What do you think will happen next?
What character do you like best? Why?
What character can you relate to?
In general what do you think this author is trying to tell us?
What do you think of each relationship?
Who is your least favorite character? Why?
What do you think of the setting and time period?
If it was in present day what do you think would change?
Do you like the writer's style?
These are the normal guiding questions. I’ll post a few questions that (I can’t remember the word I need) this chapter.
1- Do you think the stranger will be a big part in this story?
2- Do you think they will be close friends?
So leave a comment and enjoy the rest of the book.

well, (cough) um I kind of am a wee bit ahead. Several chapters to be exact. ops? BUT I do have to tell about this other book I'm reading and yes it has something to do with this store. I'm reading "how to mack a good script great" And they had a reference to Tom Sawyer. I thought that was cool. The reference was for the beginning of the book and the way it starts. They thought that the story had a good middle but a confusing beginning. I found it difficult to start but it got did get easier.
P.S. If this isn't enough I can post more if necessary.
It is confussing in the begining especially the way they talk.
I think the stanger will be a mian character in the book.
Yeah, I think they will become friends.
Hey Sal. Use microsoft document for spell check, :) Might be a good idea. Do you want to answer more of the questions? I will try to hurry up and post more chapters.
Well I thought it was interesting.
The authors writing style. Also with the time when the book was written and where it takes place it will be a different book. It is to early to tell what is really going on in the book. So I don't know what to answer for some of the questions. I don't really know who is going to be part of the book.
Well, I think it's a style that I'm not used to. I kind of didn't like how the first chapter started out but I did like the pre-face because it kind of explained a little about the book before it started.
I do think that the stranger is one of the main characters and that Tom and this stranger will become friends.
It was an interesting chapter. I thought it was different the way they talked, but it fits the timeframe of the book. Now for the questions....
I dont know that I was really expecting anything specific to happen in this chapter.
Next? Let's see... More mischeif.
I like Tom the best because he is so outgoing and determined to do anything and everything.
I don't really know which character I relate to.
My least favorite character is Toms Aunt. I just think that she is only taking care of him because her sister died, I don't think that if she hadn't died the aunt would spend much time with him.
Present day? I think the way they talk would definitely change, I also don't think the Aunt would expect him to do so much or have as many manners. I just see this day in age that some families expect that, but most of society seems to not really care.
I think the stranger and Tom will be very close and he will play a prominent role in this book.
I was really confused in this chapter as well... the way the grammar is in that time period confuses the heck out of me... You don't really get a good hint of any of the characters so as of this moment I don't really know what to think of them... Other than that it seems to be really good so far...
Tom is an interesting character. While it might seem that Aunt Polly doesn't like him much at first glance, she says and does things that show she cares about him very much. As much as she'd like to be mad at him when he gets into mischief, she just can't seem to make herself stay mad for very long.
As for the boy Tom gets into a fight with, I think the purpose is to show what kind of kid he is. He's forceful and smug and smart and not afraid to jump into the fray of things. Rebellious, but in a likeable sort of way.
It was a kind of intresting start to the story, you don't really get an introduction to the charactures, you just kind of jump into their story. I was expecting more introductions to the charactures but in a way it's a good way to start. I think Mark Twain is just explaining that Tom is an ordinary troublemaker. Jake, the grammar and the slang is really tough this chapter but it does get better. I promise.
Well on to chapter 2.
I don't really like the writer's style of writing. How they talk like hicks, it just drives me nuts.
