Chapter 6
Tom gets in more trouble and meets the new girl. Tom stopped to talk to Huckleberry Finn. Tom was late to school, got in trouble and had to sit with the girls. That is what he wanted so it isn’t much of a punishment. He sits by the new girl which is Becky Thatcher. Tom gets her attention and she gets mad. Then for the rest of the day he can’t stay focus on the schoolwork. That’s how the Chapter ends.
What are Tom’s intentions for trading a tooth for a tick?
Why do you think Tom trades so much?
What do you think Tom is thinking when he does the trading?
Do you think Tom actually likes Becky or just likes her because she the new girl?

Well this chapter was pretty fun. I loved the conversation between Huck and Tom. The superstitions they have are really funny and pretty intresting. As I have already read this book I know what happens at the graveyard. I think Tom trades so much because he's envious of what other people have, and he wants to have them.
I can't wait to read more about Huck and Tom. They'll get into more and more trouble. :)
I really liked this chapter...
I thought his conversation with Huckleberry Finn was very interesting. How they talked about curing warts was very odd and seemed to ubstruct around not fact but what they believed. It was different!
I dont really know why Tom trades so much I think it has something to do with the fact that he isn't one of the more wealthier people.
I think Tom actually does like Becky and I find it interesting that he wrote I LOVE YOU on the desk...Very odd words to use...He just met her...I am very excited to see what happens with those people wether they will start to be friends or whatever else happens in this time!
The more I read the more it's clear that Tom is a daredevil and a free independent spirit, but also a very likable, thoughtful, intelligent kid.
He's understanding and doesn't really care much what others think about Huck Finn. In fact, he revels in the fact that he knows him. It's almost as though he's living vicariously through Huck and Huck's adventures are his.
He likes Becky, there's no doubt of that considering all he's willing to do to just sit next to her. It's not every boy in school who would take a beating with a switch just to sit next to a girl he likes. His interaction with her tells me that even though he thinks himself all grown up and manly, he's still naive when it comes to girls.
Where you at all surprised by the language Huck used when he was talking about black people? The derogatory language didn't seem to bother Tom at all. And did you catch the fact that Tom, because he did so poorly at spelling, had to give the medal back that he got by trading his things for the tickets?
I'm not really suprised at the derogatory language. Considering the time period there would be some remarke like those.
Yeah, I wasn’t surprised by the language very much but I was surprised buy the love note. I was not expecting that Tom would just go out and say he loves her. I mean he makes little lies to cover up everything.
As for the conversation with Huck, that was funny. I think that conversation was probably the funniest thing I’ve read in a wile. The way Mark Twain writes it they sound like a couple of girls gossiping about a new bracelet.
I believe that Tom likes Becky, just by the way he could not keep his mind off of her.
