Tom gets his way to a ferry and gets on it, to go home. He gets to his aunt's house and he sees his Aunt, Sid, Mary, and Joe's mother in the sitting room, which I'm guessing it's like a living room, but not sure. Anyway he sees them talking and crying over Joe and Tom.
Aunt Polly and Joe's Mother were talking about the things that Tom and Joe did that was foolish. I can't think of any other word but foolish. While they were talking, Tom was thinking about how he would love to get out from under the bed and show his aunt that he is alive but decided not to.
Tom starts to leave after he knows Aunt Polly is asleep, he blows out the candle, kissed her, and then on the way out he locks the door.
Then Tom gets back to camp while they are having breakfast. After that Tom finds a hiding place to sleep while Joe and Huck going fishing.
What do you think Tom is feeling and the end of the chapter besides sadness and tiredness?

Frankly, I was surprised to learn that Tom decided to return to the island. Especially after he hears what Aunt Polly and his sister are saying about him. He hears them talk about what a good boy he is. He hears them talk about him as if he is dead. He hears the pain and sadness in their voices. And still, he doesn't come out from under the bed and let them know he's okay.
Listening to them makes him feel important I guess. Like he's got this legacy now and people are remembering what they want to remember of him and not remembering the person he really is. Maybe that's why he decides to stay hidden and return to the island.
I think Tom feels and mix between proud and guilty. Tom might proud because no one is disappointed in him. Remembering him as a boy who wasn’t bad just mischievous, but was really a good hearted boy. Tom felt proud because of knowing that his Aunt Polly was proud of him and care for him.
Tom might feel guilty because he has done some stuff that he’s not very proud of. Also he might feel guilty of leaving everyone that he cares about, knowing that he is loved and people care about. Waiting to say “I’m here, don’t cry”; but not wanting everyone to be mad at him. Upset at Tom for leaving and putting them though all of the pain thinking that he has died. So he goes back feeling sad and probably so much more.
I not really surpised reading that Tom decided to go back to the island. It seems like something his charachter would do.
I think that he wants all the guys to go home.
